Emma Zimmermann
at POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair from 10–13 September 2026
Emma Zimmermann (*1997 in Großburgwedel) lives and works in Berlin. In their artistic practice, Zimmermann engages intensely with the symbolism of fences and spikes. Fences define property, exclude, and structure space. In particular, the free ends of fences are not only decorative elements but also obstacles that make them difficult to overcome. They appear dangerous, sensual, erotic, useless, and absurd at the same time. Zimmermann’s works explore how anger can be represented without reproducing patriarchal structures. At the center is not the single fence or individual spike, but the shared potential underlying all fences as a system.
