Since 2015, the Les Alisiers Artist Residency has been available to young emerging artists from the Olivier von Schulthess collection as an inspirational work retreat.
For the most part, the desire to cultivate a relationship between the collector and the artists, and to nurture a mutual interest in contemporary art, led Olivier von Schulthess to open his private chalet as a temporary residence for young artists—as a site for artistic exchange and dialogue about art, and most importantly, a fascination with it.
Olivier von Schulthess’s Chalet Les Alisiers is located in the Swiss Alps, more precisely, in Les Mayens-de-Sion in the Canton of Valais near the town of Sion. Built in 1891, it has always been a place for the family to relax and enjoy a laid-back social life. However, since the family’s use of the chalet is limited to a few holiday weeks, the possibility arose to offer the estate to artists in the collection during the time when the family was not using it. And thus, the idea of the artist residency came about.
