Nevermind anyway

With works of Anne-Lise Coste

The ways that Coste interlaces language and image confront the viewer with the question—and do so in a provocative way, but more on that later—of what the application of words and images in one’s own use of language means, after all. In art-historical practice, the two often seem to appear distinct from one another, one needs language to speak about art, to analyze it, which creates distance. Art history and sciences seem to need this distance, but how should we proceed when language itself becomes an object of artistic practice, like in Coste’s case?
